IV

Check out this fabric! The wider stripes have an iridescent finish {which I love so much I can't stand myself!} And the darker fabric is a rich and deep brown color which compliments the houndstooth perfectly.

I finished this one just in time to get pictures with a setting sun. Every picture I took in the house was horrible and the color was way off! So, I ran outside and took pictures on my front porch - on my vintage glider {to be specific - the black one that has chippy paint and kelly green shows through the chips - oh, it's perfect! And the fact that my Papa gave it to me!}

I originally was going with a solid blue background {it's actually a robin's egg blue} - but the more I painted, the more it needed more. Sometimes simple is just too plain.

Now, I'm giving you all these angles to show you something. See it? Behind the "G" - you've got to look hard! My camera just really didn't catch it {which I'm shocked - most times I use any metallic paint, it stands out like a sore thumb in pictures!!!} But I've never bragged about these picture taking skills - so what can I say?! It is the background paint with an added shimmer.

It is a "IV" - because he is the fourth! I was asked to paint it like a watermark. I tried it at different sizes - incredibly big to incredibly small - and this size was perfect. It is there - but doesn't take anything away from the monogram! The "watermark" idea was genius! I mean, it is part of his name - but it's not jumping out at ya' painted this way!

Is it just me, or is this the best symmetrical monogram ever? I'm totally serious! The same "round" letter on both sides - another "round" letter in the center. Incredibly symmetrical! My kids have "lopsided" monograms HWW and CWT - Lawson's is not so bad LWT - and well, to be quite honest, I thought about that with Em so hers rocks in a script{!!!} EWG {I can't believe I just admitted that!} This is the second boy monogram in the past month or so and I've done a girl one as well.

On another note . . .

I've told you all how Carson is obsessed with Shrek - right?! Well, he has 2 of these Shrek dolls. But only one is apparently "good" enough to play with - the other one gets slung to the other side of the room if he is slipped in as the "good" Shrek. Trust me - I have no idea and if my kid could communicate with me, it would be the first thing I'd ask him! Even in the dark people! Sunday night he was tore up because Shrek wasn't in bed with him. I saw the "bad" Shrek {although I had no idea it was "bad" Shrek} before I had turned out the lights. So, I felt around {in the dark} till I found him. I then handed him over and Carson says, "No Moddy, Shrek." Let me translate "No Mommy, that is bad Shrek - I want the good Shrek." Even in the dark . . .

Okay, well today after lunch, we went upstairs for our usual book reading time and then {thank GOD} naptime. I left all the lunch mess on the table and knew I would tackle that chore after everyone was asleep. Once I got all the kids in bed, I got the usual Shrek chant from Carson. I had just seen him somewhere downstairs. So, here I go - on an ogre hunt. Guess who was hanging out on the table??

I'm not freakin' kidding you when I say he had that ham hanging out of his mouth!!! Now, either one of my kids stuck ham in his mouth - or that freakin' doll was sitting on my table eating ham while I was upstairs reading stories to my kids! I'm a little freaked out right now!!! And unfortunately, Carson's got the WORSE speech delay ever and can't tell me if he stuck the freakin' ham in Shrek's mouth!!! What's worse, that doll is currently sleeping with my kid!! Somebody tell me that dolls don't come alive!!! I've seen the movies!! Luck for me, my camera was sitting on the counter. It took me few minutes to get myself together to even take the picture!!!

AND I can't believe that {probably} the best "professional" looking picture that I've ever took was of Shrek - with ham hanging out of his mouth!?!?!?!?!?!

that is a great pic of Shrek with ham out of his mouth :) Freaky!!!

And I do love that monogram...and it took me a second to see the "IV" but it is great. That is awesome. Congrats...that is a great painting...as usual.

Did i tell you that you redoing your blog...made me really want to redo mine... I was thinking of using your gal, but then didn't have time to think through what I wanted and then when I saw (the one I ended up with) on another site, I thought "yes." So, thanks for spurring on the idea :)

Haha - that Shrek picture is really good. I was thinking that even before you said it! Isn't it funny the things our little ones get attached too? Sometimes there is no rhyme or reason. Also, I hate my monogram - before I was married, it was good, but my married monogram is wWl - so ugly because there are two Ws right beside each other!

Oh I really like that painting especially with the stripes! That is the most symmetrical monogram I've seen. I'm dreading my new married monogram which will be tMm, I don't like the double letter. I will miss my TCA... oh well! Have a great day!

You need to write a "things you don't see everyday...unless you are me" book!

I LOOOOVE this masculine monogram and yes, you are right, the IV watermark is genius!

I t was all we could do to decide on names much less worry about the monogram beforehand {sigh} maybe next time around...

I always get upset with the paint splatters on my table. For some reason, I love them on yours. I feel so much better now! Love your stuff! Keep it up!

LMAO! Can I tell you that in a child's eye...yes dolls do come alive. I just to think my stuffed dog "puppie" would come alive all the time and protect me at night while I slept. Heck I still have that dang puppie to this day....36 years later (Yep I'm proudly admitting to that!!)

I bet you catch Carson talking to Shrek and Shrek completely understands Carson. It's Carson's way of feeling better about his speech delay, my Christian did the same thing but it was an imaginary friend named Matt.

Before you know it you won't be able to keep Carson quite and wishing for the days that he didn't talk so much until then....listen up to Shrek!

I can't stop laughing at the Shrek story. And picturing you freaking out over whether Shrek put the ham in him mouth or the boys did is even funnier.

And the paining is amazing as always. That fabric is awesome! And would match my living room perfectly! I really love it!

It took me a couple minutes of staring at my computer screen and moving the screen up and down to see the watermark. That is so neat! I woulda never noticed if you hadn't said anything.

SO. FUNNY.

I would be a little freaked by the Shrek thing, I must admit! Maybe he does come to life and THAT is how he tells the "good" Shrek from the "bad!" LOL LOL!! Great photo of Shrek, by the way!

I thought the painting looked great and I saw the "watermark" right from the start and kept reading hoping you would explain! Great idea on your client's part and great execution on your part. You are amazing to me!!

That IV RAWKS!!! Awesome job, Kim!!! You did an amazing job!

LOL @ Shrek!!

BTW, not sure if you can use PLAID brand paint. But in my quest to find colored chalkboard paint, PLAID sells paint with glitter in it, along with colored chalkboard paint. The things you find out with Google. :)
