I just can't help myself and I must do it . . . .

**Edited to add**

****Edited to add some more****

I have to put my 2 cents in {- and actually, it's probably worth way less than that!} But here goes . . .

Did you watch the VP candidate debate tonight?? Did you?? Oh, if you didn't, you missed a good one! First off this "change" everybody is talking about - well, it happened tonight and I hoped you all didn't miss it. I'm so freakin' sick and tired of the "bad-mouthing" - I want to know what you "did" to make things "better" here in America for me and my family! {Because, frankly, I feel like that is some of the most important people!} These 2 VP hopefuls pulled off a very good debate. I actually missed the first several minutes, but was mesmerized when I did give the telly my full attention. Thank you, Sarah, for looking at me and talking to me. Thank you for only mentioning Obama's name 18 times and not 60+ times. Thank you for telling me what you did to better the world. Thanks for being "real".

Now, don't get me wrong, I felt the Biden did a great job too. I don't want to cut him down, it's just that I really like Sarah. And not because she is a woman. Actually, I've been one of the few people that didn't really want a female in the office - not quite seen or heard of one that I thought could do it. Until now! If it wasn't for that accent, I would think she's from the south. She seems so gracious! I love to hear her say "thank you"!! Everyone is giving her all this grief with the "get back with ya'" comments . . . . At least she is going to check into it for "ya'" - most politicians give you some bogus, made up answer!

Okay, let me get on the past "8 years" comments. I really thought that Congress is majority led by Democrats? And I thought that the Democratic controlled Congress must vote Bush's "stuff" into law? So, the question lies in "why in Pete's name, is it all Bush's fault" when Congress is the one who votes this stuff into law? Oh, I know, because no one take responsibility and they have to blame someone! I've never wanted to tell someone to "stick it" so many times in my life when it comes to this comment! Would you stop with last "8 years" comments - it's getting old!

The facts are that the past 8 years would have been some difficult years to be president! There was 9/11, Katrina {which we all know was Bush's fault - he made that all happen}, the war . . . . I could keep going. Most of all this stuff was inevitable. It was going to happen no matter who was in office. It just sucks that it was Bush - hate it for you man, but someone has to take the fall - and it's you brother. At least you didn't have "sexual relations" with anyone other than your wife. I guess you were just too busy trying to work on the issues at hand.

Ahhh yeah, how about the housing market?! Dang, that's ol' Bush's fault too!! He offered all those "broke" jokers an adjustable rate mortgage, talked them into it as the best possible idea, convinced them the market is only going to get "better", no need to lock into a fixed rate when you "can afford" it. I bet Bush set behind every desk and held the pen in their hands and forced all those signatures! I'm sure he did! Uhhh, yeah right!! Folks, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that these were all problems that started before his 8 years in office!

Okay, now you got all this broke jokers trying to make their monthly house payments and then Bush jacked the price of gas up {I kid you not when I say that my grandmother actually said to me that it was "Bush's fault for the gas prices"}! Now, we got a bunch of fools who can't afford to put gas in their cars to go to work to pay the mortgage they already couldn't afford. Man, Mr. President, can you give us some kind of break {hey thanks for that stimulus check - it really came in handy with that rubber mulch we bought!} Because we know it is all your fault for all these STUPID decisions that the American people were forced to make. Because we apparently live in some communistic country where you control us.

Like my healthcare. Oh, please - please control my healthcare!! Oh, wait - the government already does - it's called tricare and it's through the military - and it SUCKS!!!! You want to know why it SUCKS - because the government has control of this fantastic healthcare that we have on me, my husband and my 4 kids.

ughh - I really could keep going - but my despise mostly lies with the media. Somebody put the blame where it belongs!! I've really gotten to where as soon as I see them cutting someone down - I turn off the TV. Give me facts and do it in an informative way. Not the "I'm so smart and your so dumb" way. {I might be the only one who feels that way.} So, thanks Sarah, for telling me what you have done and not so much what the opponent has not done. Hey, I don't mind you telling what you have done compared to what the other has done. But no more of this belittling each other - it's old! So, thanks for this "change" - it started with your speech about "you" and not the "other guy" - what a breath of fresh air.

As far as president - I feel real sorry for the person who gets in office - because apparently that is all being president is about - being the fall guy - the one to blame when it all falls apart. We have to blame someone for the bad. Because no one is going to jump in and say "sorry, I think I helped contribute to that bad issue!"

November is around the corner - get your facts - then go vote!

I'm tired - if there are any misspelled words in this post - I'll change them in the morning!

** Okay, my friend Chris made a valid point about insurance - please go read her comment, then come back to this spot . . . . . As far as the insurance, IF the government would do what the Canadian government did {for that matter most other developed countries} I would totally take it! But I just don't think it will happen that way. These doctors who have been practicing for upteen years are not willing to give up their money for a government paid insurance company. And as long as they have the money to pay the lobbyist - it is going to remain that way. The facts are that politics are shady and crooked and greedy. I'm tellin' ya', it's who is in Congress that has the control. And as far as my insurance, most of our ailments heal themselves by the time we get our approval to go see the next doctor. And again, it's government ran. It's free. I pay nothing until I get the bill in for 20% of the usual and customary charges! And that hurts.

We need real change and not a bunch of talk . . . . .

****This is for the anonymous comment at 5:44 pm on October 3 - You pay 100%?? Do you have a choice as to where you go??? I don't!

Hi, I don't think i have ever commented on your site, but I love your blog, because I paint name frames too and it is fun seeing yours (gives me fun ideas and inspiration). I live in Europe, so I do them for my family and friends as birthday gifts etc...and as a hobby during the dark months here when it is dark by 3pm and not light again till around 9am.

Anyway, I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed your "2 cents" worth. I haven't listned/watched the debate yet, but I am downloading it now so I can watch it. I agree with what you have posted and now look forward to watching the debates. Thanks...

Amen, sister friend! About Tricare, about the Democratic majority (it was a Republican majority that did the stuff they are bragging about 8 years ago too)and that Sarah is finally a real person (regardless of gender) talking to "us"

I'm not normally one to post comments, but you have put to words what I've been thinking! THANK YOU!!

I assure you as a Canadian I was glued to the debate , even though our very own debate was on last night , which I did watch some of as well, I had to see what all the media will be talking about today , clearly Palin knows energy , she couldn't seem to get away from that topic much , you need to stop drilling and stop buying we need clean sources of energy for our homes and cars alike.
Change is not electing the same party , we can clearly see that from way over here , Healthcare , let me say we have always had free health care all my life, we can alway just drop and go to the doctor , if I need a test it is done , no one argues over it being needed , it doesn't cost me a penny, I have zero private health insurance , I would like it to cover any meds , but I do not need it to raise my family and keep us healthy , we have taken advantage of the highest tech testing out there , surgery for my daughter , not once was money a concern nor was there the stress of waiting for the approval of any insurance co fat cats ,government healthcare should be embraced really the US is one of the only if not the only country who allows medical care for profit, you take the money out of the CEO's pockets and put it back into you government , the governement that you elect that you pay and that works for you , it only makes sense.I know double income doctors here and they live very nicely but not high on the hog, its not all about money .
I will be watching the election very closely it is very interesting , I hope you all make the right decision , not based on faith , funny , I have no idea what my candidates beliefs as far as faith go , we do not allow that to determine our government , and I love it that way , it is about the real issues, human rights , women rights, environment , taxes and healthcare and of course jobs and education.
Happy choosing ,
Chris

I love you KTW! I'm sticking with my original decision. I propose we add a "none of the above" box to the ballot and let us all explain why we feel that way. Really? Are these four people the most QUALIFIED people to take the White House? At this point, I have to decide who is the lesser of two evils. I haven't made that decision yet. BUT, I agree it was a great debate. We decided last night we should put the two of them together and leave off the primary candidates. Now THAT might be a winner. :-)

Great post Kim! I laughed out loud at how obvious it is that all of this is in no way responsible for ALL of these problems. Great points! Have a great day!

AMEN!!! I was glued to the debate and I even called you to make sure you were as well!!! I definately agree with you about "change". Wasn't it nice for noone to speak over each other and noone really argue and belittle one another. I loved the fact that Sarah commended Biden several times yet still stuck to her guns with her own beliefs. I think she is the ticket!!! I do agree with you again about how you said she told us what she has done and what she is about... oh how I needed to hear those things! It was a great debate and CHANGE is coming!!!

Melissa Santanastasio said...

PLEASE GIRL I CAN GO ON!! I am a republican and am open to anyone at this point. I was very impressed with Palin. Biden did a good job but he looked so pasty like he was going to have a stroke at any second. I am loving the pork barrell politics that is going into effect now to get people to change their votes this country needs to get people the hell out of office and start over. let the bad companies that made bad decisions suffer the people will help themselves eventually they need to stop relying on a handout and start pullling themselves up by the bootstraps and gettin er done. take responsiblity for your actions people and stop waiting for a bailout!!!

I totally agree. And to the person that brought out how wonderful government free healthcare is I would have to disagree. I have engaged many internet conversations and read many articles pertaining to this and to say you can just 'drop in and see a doctor' anytime is not what I have found to be true.

Let's think about this. How many people do you think would RUN to a doc's office or ER with very minor issues that can resolve on their own if they knew they didn't have to pay one dime?? MANY. I know of a woman in Canada whose mother had injured her shoulder and the diagnosis was a torn rotator cuff To get in for surgery to repair it took 5 months. FIVE MONTHS of pain meds. By the time the surgery was done; permanent arthritis had set in and she had to seek therapy for the pain med addiction. There are many more stories out there like this or that do not glorify free healthcare; just think about how clogged waiting rooms are now and how long it takes at times just to get an appt with a specialist....imagine when it's all FREE. Good luck with that.

Congress is at fault for many things. THEY make the decisions and laws. THEY were the ones that told us when they took control THEY would turn things around in their first 100 days. They did nothing and are the worst in history. I am SICK of the media bias and I honestly am so incensed by it I could scream. I just cannot fathom those that take the mainstream media at face value. Research the facts before you believe even one of these overly airbrushed 'journalists' on your TV screen or in print.

Do we REALLY want a Democratic controlled House and Senate with a Democratic President? AHHH!!! It scares me to even think about the deaf dumb and blind leading the deaf dumb and blind.

One more thing. I am NOT for bailing out people that were too stupid and irresponsible to buy things they could not afford. Where is the learning lesson and accountability? None. Society today is all about 'me me me' and about having 'stuff'; the more the better.

We play by the rules; pay all our bills on time and have perfect credit with a high score. We live within our means and only have one credit card we pay off EVERY month. We are middle class and appreciate the normal things in life. I want our kids to grow up knowing this responsibility and accountability and that you don't need to 'Keep up with the Jones'.

Rant over.

Pam said...

Amen sister. You go girl! I have felt the same way about a women in office but Sarah is impressive. She is real and thats what we need.

Mommy said...

OK, I have to ring in on this one. I will not say that I think this bailout is a good thing. I think it is crap. However, it isn't just about Wall Street. It isn't just about companies who made bad decisions. If our government DOES NOT bail out the financial crisis we have on Wall Street we are ALL going to feel the ramifications.

If they do not get the money they need to stay afloat, they will call in ALL their loans. They can and they will do that folks. Imagine you get a notice that says your mortgage/car loan/business loan is due immediately. Do you have that much money sitting around? No, most of us do not. If we did we wouldn't have needed a loan. Imagine that your husband goes to work and discovers the small business he works for is closing. The bank called in their business loans and they didn't have the cash flow to cover it. Imagine you genuinely need to borrow money for something. Most banks are not lending money right now...especially to businesses. They don't have the money to loan. In a slowing economy a business needs more cash flow from the bank to survive. Most small businesses do every day business on a line of credit. Certain times of the month you need the line of credit to stay in business until the money from customers comes in. If the bank calls in the line of credit basically you are screwed. What will happen? They will close and every employee will lose their job. See what I mean?

This isn't just about their bad decisions. It's about how their bad decisions are going to effect regular every day America. We are an average family. We live within our means. We pay our bills on time and live responsibly. That doesn't negate the fact that this could directly effect ALL of us in a very NEGATIVE way.

The bail out sucks. No doubt about it. However, I'm not blowing smoke here folks. If the government doesn't do something we are all going to be in trouble.

(**Sorry Kim for hijacking your blog. You know I don't normally do things like this but I had to speak up. This financial crisis is very real for everyone. No one is exempt.**)

Preach on, Preach on.... Love the post! I totally agree about everything you said...

I love Sarah Palin, think she will do a great job. Ps- I did not want a woman in the big house either, I think it should be ran by a man. But I like Palin, she meets my standards. I was already voting for McCain, but she has me talking about it, not just thinking about it!

Pss- I fwe get nationwide healthecare, kiss doctors appointments goodbye... It takes 6 months or longer in Canada to get a regular appointment. I think people should work for what they have- that is what I do anyways... My Aunt & Uncle have tricare and they hate it....

Have a great weekend!

Kim--you have hit the nail on the head! I LOVE Palin...I love what she stands for, I love that she is so real, I love that she was a middle class American and I love that she isn't scared to stand up to corruption!

People need to get real and see what kind of change we really need!

Thanks again Kim for putting it out there....

Thank you for this post. I love it when people are passionate about politics. I too don't understand why everything is considered Bush's fault. I know people don't understand me, but I like him. I remember after 9/11 how he was such a beacon and it was like he was seeing us through it all. Well, I like Sarah too and I am glad she spoke to us and not the moderator. I do not indertand how people think she is out of touch with reality. I think she gets it.

But, really I am getting sick of this election. It has been going on forever and I am just ready to see someone get in office. Make the change, or whatever!...of coure I hope it is one candidate more than the other...oh wait, I love your comment about "sexual realtions" I swear the values and morals of our country have gone out the window!

I believe particanship is the last true predjudice that really exists. You can;t say anything about race, women, religion...whatever. But you can say "those liberals are all a bunch of freaks" or 'those conservatives are a bunch of bible hippies that don't get it" and it is acceptable. Huh?

Are you glad I left a 20 minute comment?

Great post Kim! I have been a Fox News junkie to better inform myself of the ticket I want to vote for. Last nights debate was very good(for both VP candidates). I commend Sarah Palin for saying the words that we all need to hear about living within our means. That is definitely not something most people who don't live this way want to hear, however it is a fact and it needs to get under control! I pray for this election and hope most of the US is praying too!

Rachel Spence said...

I agree it was a great debate and it was nice to see one where we got to hear about the issues and not the "offenses" of the other candidate. However, in reading the comments...I don't even know where to start....so all I will say is THIS is why I don't put politics on my blog. Ha!

Oh I am so glad your aren't mad about my comment , we don't think you are goobers, truth is we are glad to be be Canadians but sort of feel like we too are American because we share the same culture really if truth be told.
They did a poll yesterday on the Toronto news asking viewers which debate they would watch the US or ours , I mean why wouldn't we watch our own guys fighting it out for Prime Minister , same job , our country , but sure enough about half voted for the US and half Canada , doesn't that just say it all, your politics are just more fun to watch or implode which ever the case may be , be do however thankfull experience an unbiases news cast on all things political , sad but true.
Really I would love to be a US voter this year, but I am am Canadian and will vote cast my vote and hope for change here as well .
What ever you think , as long as you cast your vote say your peace , we are blessed to have such a say , so many never get this priveledge.
We all are truly blessed to live where we do American or Canadian , we are very fortunate indeed.

I just saw the anon comment dogging Canadian Free health care , of course there will be people who don't get the fastest service , but yes I can just go to the doctor anytime, I do not , but know many that do go , my daughter needed surgery , they had her in in two weeks , do you hear stories like that , they kept her over night for a procedure they never do this for to make sure she was ok , we have midwifery care for FREE , alone this is such a bonus to mothers and babies, eye for children under 18 free, of course you will need to wait an an ER for a few hours in a city with 150,000 people I am sure any given day they will be things going really wrong for people, but not once does someone put off needed medical care because they can not pay for it.My mother had two heart attacks and was transfered to the top cardio hospital with in a day , at no cost to her or our family . How can you say it isn't good . In the past three years I have not waited more than 20 minutes to see a clinic doctor , I also know when the most busy times of day are to go , and I avoid those times, its not rocket science , you can play a victim and complain or you can see what we have and how lucky we are.
I personally have NO complaints about our healthcare system , I think it is incredibly efficient .
There you go anon , that is my take and since I have lived ALL my life with free health I think that you should consider this a positive opinion.

Let's put this in perspective...

There are 33.3 million Canadian citizens to 301 million Americans...I stand correct that wait times for healthcare would triple on top of the fact...HOW would this be funded when we can barely keep Medicare, Medicaid and SSI afloat? Let's not forget the additional $700 billion we went into debt today.

Be careful what you wish for.

I would be thankful for health insurance period. 20% is better than the 100% I pay.

Anonymous said...

Yes, of course I have the choice of where I want to seek treatment when I have the cash to do so. The uninsured are often forced to pay up front for all appointments and tests myself included. Did you know when most insurance is billed often your insurance plan is given a discount on that procedure? Example...the doctor offices bills your insurance $200, but the max the insurance company will pay on that claim is $150. Okay...great you pay 20% of the $150. I pay $200 no discount, straight away before treatment. Then on top of that I can expent an $257 dollar antibiotic. Yeah...not trying to argue, but I appreciated Tricare when I had it.

But anyways...I enjoy your art. You are gifted and I thank your husband for serving..just like mine did.

Heather said...

Great post Kim! I just love that people are tuning in and have an opinion. Here is mine :-)...Canada may be doing a great job with the free health care, but I'm not convinced that is what the U.S. needs. Our government run programs (from the postal service to social security) are not overly impressive. I've never looked to Washington to meet my needs and I'm very confident that I can do a better job of managing my resources.

All politics aside, despite a horrible week on Wall Street...the parking lot a Target is still full, there is gas in most of our very nice cars, our pantries are overflowing with food, we have soft beds to sleep on at night and we still have more freedoms than most of the world. We are a blessed nation!

Kim Hancock said...

We'll be voting McCain/Palin! Obama is a crook...he is part of the mortgage crisis...anyone ever heard of ACORN?

JoAnneBNA said...

Great thoughts, Kim. It's healthy for us to get involved in the conversation. As for healthcare in Canada, think again. I have doctors that I have worked with over the years who are Canadian, and it isn't all that. Often times patients wait a very long time to get in to see a doctor, and doctors are plagued with heavy patient loads and limited resources. I think it's time that some of those "ear marks" included a good healthcare plan where patients can choose teir doctors, doctors can provide quality care and practice what they studied 12 years to do without fear of going broke because of malpractice insurance. We're losing some of the best doctors to executive positions in the private sector because it's more lucrative and there is less liability, in addition the credability is higher. Doctors aren't treated with the prestige tey once were in their own profession. Healthcare should be affordable based on one's ability to pay. I cold go on and on about insurance, I've seen it from the insuror standpoint, as the care provider and the patient.
What we all need to do more of is PRAY for our leaders, one another and look for the GOOD in all things. Where there is good, there is GOD. Cool, huh? :)

If you would do your homework, you will see that we had a couple good years after Bush took office,,, till Congress was controlled by the democrates. I was raised to ALWAYS vote democrat, till I grew up and really started listening to the issues. And I've talked to several folks in Canada. It ain't the perfect solution, either. FREE healthcare. Let's get real. Somebody has to pay for it. I also don't think those who think before they spend should pay for those who want to live above their means and make bad decisions. I've heard Obama talk about change-- but his changes are part of the problem.
